When Economic Growth Forces Banks to Raise Capital Before They Can Fund More Growth
Vietnam’s rapid economic expansion is creating stronger demand for credit, but lending growth also increases the capital banks need to support larger balance sheets. ORV-ECF-004 examines why strong loan demand does not automatically translate into unlimited lending capacity, and how equity fundraising, regulatory capital requirements, credit quality, foreign investment, and shareholder dilution shape the economics of banking growth.
Using Vietnam’s banking sector as the case, the analysis shows that growth can create recurring capital requirements and that the value of expansion ultimately depends on whether additional capital produces sustainable returns rather than simply enabling a larger loan book.
