The Reliability of AI-Generated Evidence in Regulated Professional Services
Generative artificial intelligence is increasingly used in legal, medical, financial, and other regulated professional services. Yet the ability to produce convincing information quickly does not establish that the information is accurate, reproducible, or supported by reliable evidence. This research examines the limitations of AI-generated professional information, drawing on empirical studies of specialized legal research tools and medical AI benchmarks, alongside institutional guidance on reliability, information integrity, and professional accountability.
The study explores why authentic citations can still support incorrect conclusions, why performance varies between professional tasks, and why faster initial production does not necessarily reduce the total cost of delivering dependable services. It also examines the relevance of confidentiality, professional obligations, and the European Union's AI regulatory framework. The research provides an evidence-based perspective on the conditions under which AI-generated information can contribute value to regulated professional work without being mistaken for independently verified professional evidence.
