When AI Platforms Control Both Data Access and Distribution

AI competition is increasingly shaped by more than model capability alone. ORV-TAI-002 examines how data access, computing infrastructure, distribution, customer relationships, and commercial partnerships influence which AI platforms can convert technical capability into sustainable economic value.

Using Alphabet, Microsoft, OpenAI, European interoperability measures, and the UK’s ongoing scrutiny of business software as examples, the analysis separates model performance from distribution advantage, information access, vertical integration, and monetization. It shows that controlling more stages of the AI value chain can improve coordination and market access, but does not automatically produce the strongest financial returns.
